Fab Friday Icons: Marilyn Monroe

Welcome to the (almost!) weekend! It's the last Friday of the month and time for another Fab Friday Icons post! After raving about my idols from the past, such as Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Dorothy Draper or Diana Vreeland, it would only be appropriate to add this blonde bombshell to the iconic list: Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome the fabulous...MARILYN MONROE! Marilyn was more than just a 1950's sex symbol...she was a superstar who was able to merge sexuality and sensuality, vulnerability and extraordinary beauty. Marilyn was undeniably talented and unexpectedly intelligent - she owned over 200 books and studied history at UCLA. A depressed and fragile individual, Marilyn suffered from her unsuccessful marriages, alleged affairs and the Hollywood pressure. Not many people know that side of Marilyn...they remember her for fabulous movie roles, singing "Happy Birthday" to JFK and standing over a New York City subway vent in an infamous white, pleated dress that was recently auctioned off for $4.6 million! Marilyn inspired many artists and will always be remembered for her glamorous life that ended in such a tragedy. One of the many people she put in "awe" was Andy Warhol, who painted this portrait of Marilyn on a silkscreen after her death. There are many different variations of this painting, but they all portray Marilyn's beauty in such a unique way! What do you love about Marilyn Monroe? Would she make your Fab Friday Icons List? I'd love to find out so leave me a comment below!
