Translating Trends: Man's Best Friend
Animal imagery has always played a big role in home design (whooo can forget those years of the owl?), and I've seen two new animals running wild on the US design scene: dogs and peacocks. Even here at the London Design Festival this week, dog prints, silouettes, statues and imagery has been spotted EVERYWHERE!
Dogs are popping up on accessories from pillows to plates, so it’s time to unleash some doggie details into your own home! Here's how to do it:
Even those that are allergic will have no problem snuggling with this pooch pillow from West Elm. Noted pet portraitist Scott Lifshutz created a series of images exclusively for West Elm, including this happy pack of four-legged friends. Best of all, they won’t shed on your bed or couch!
Are you a Boston Terrier aficionado? Or maybe basset hounds are more your pace. With a wide range of breeds to choose from, each pooch print from Ballard Designs is designed by Vivienne and Sponge, a dog-loving husband-and-wife team, and is hand-colored on antiqued parchment, embellished with notes on the breed’s special characteristics.
Serve canapés to your canine friends on this charming plate created exclusively for Anthropologie from French designer Nathalie Lete. Depicting un chien, it instantly adds Parisian whimsy to your tabletop.
