Translating Trends: Candy Striping
Summer has arrived and it’s time to embrace the energy of the season! One trend exploding onto the design scene like fireworks in the July sky is the multi-colored stripe in bold, candy hues.Stripes are a classic do-it-all look that looks at home in any house. In a multi-color palette, stripe’s versatility is kicked up a notch. Here are some ways to integrate this fun pattern into your home in small doses…a little bit of drama goes a long way! Kid N’ Play The whimsy of a multi-colored stripe is sure to appeal to the little ones. In the children’s bathroom, throw down a funky bathmat like Christy’s Lollypop rug . The pop of color will make bath time more fun, and your kids will love how deliciously plush it feels under foot. Dark Side For an edgier (and more grown-up) look, try a stripe with a darker backdrop. Dune’s Wires rug is an unusual departure from basic white. To fully integrate the color scheme, gather solid accessories like accent pillows or lacquered vases in one of the stripe colors. Here or There If you want to tread more lightly with this trend, incorporate a smaller-scale pieces like Jonathan Adler ’s sgraffito candleholders. The brown stripe tones down the punches of orange and red. Light is Right Think outside the box and try a multi-colored striped lampshade or lighting fixture. I have a particular penchant for California-based glass blower Caleb Siemon’s striped pendants. Hung over a kitchen counter, a row of his striped Stone Orb pendants would cast a warm glow over your culinary creations! Whether you go girly, make it masculine, keep it subtle or take it to the max, incorporating candy-colored stripes into your home is one sweet way to welcome summer!
