Its the end of the first week of March and what a week it has been! This past Tuesday, Housing Works Design on a Dime co-chairs George Oliphant, James Huniford, Nicole Gibbons and ELLE DECOR Editor-in-Chief Michael Boodro helped kick off the 2016 Design on a Dime benefit at Desiron in the New York Design Center. I was ecstatic to be a part of 60 of the worlds top interior designers who were carefully selected to create magical room vignettes with new merchandise for this years benefit.
As soon as I walked into the Desiron showroom, beautiful furniture, wonderful staff, and the best part of all, my fellow design community, greeted me with warm smiles and the room shifted with delight reminding me of the very reason we were all there. Design on a Dime helps fund Housing Works newest supportive housing development, the Hull Street Residence. Hull Street is a from-the-ground-up housing development project transforming a vacant 6,000 sq ft. lot, into a beautiful and safe home for 28 single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.
By designing a vignette, we not only get to display our unique vision for design, but we become a chapter in the story of a home that highlights the potential for a long, healthy life-style that many of these people living with HIV/AIDS need. The sense of community and the level of engagement are unparalleled to any charity event. Always an honor to be recognized in these fundraising affairs, this years Design on a Dime will be one for the books!
