Incorporating sports memorabilia into the home is a great way to personalize your decor while going green. While in London last week for the London Design Festival , my Blogtour group headed to the Decorex show. Here, I spent some time poking around the booth of the husband-and-wife team Antiques by Design . Based in Essex, this pair combines antiques with reclaimed items to create lovely time-worn home furnishings.

Many of their lamps, mirrors and decorative objects incorporated sports memorabilia, a departure from anything else I saw at Decorex . From hunting to golf, rugby, football (both american and European) to billiards and boxing, name a sport and their booth had it. Unusual and nostalgic, any one of these pieces would surely be the highlight of a room! This booth, more than any other, mirrored one of our fabulous Blogtour sponsors, Spirit of Sports , a company that focuses on fine art and home decor pieces that conjure just that…the spirit of sports!

A much more sophisticated version of the Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story .

Have you heard that brass is back? Antiques by Design also repurposes old musical instruments as lighting fixtures.

This boxing glove lamp would add a punch of personality to a living space.

These lamps will fore-ever remind their owners of athletes of the past.

In a series, these tennis rackets-turned-mirrors make a sporty statement.

Over the few days I spent exploring the fairs of the London Design Festival, I found a number of phenomenal green companies. I snapped photographs and gathered information about everything from antiques to repurposed, salvaged and recycled furnishings, to gorgeous new items crafted from sustainable materials. Over the next few weeks I’ll plan on sharing a number of these companies and manufacturers as part of the “Designing Green” feature each Thursday.
