Hello Fabulistas! I make it a point to travel often. We are focused on our daily lives and forget to see the rest of the world, which can be inspiring in so many ways. When I travel I like to see and explore new things. It amazes me that there are so many gorgeous historic homes right here in the United States. We often forget that we have these treasures at our fingertips! There are so many historic homes I’d like to visit this summer. Here’s what’s at the top of my list. The Glass House Philip Johnson’s Glass House is located very close to NYC. It’s just a train ride away! Johnson built the ultimate house that brought the outside in, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow the viewer to take in the surrounding landscape. I’m amazed that until he passed away, Johnson lived in this masterpiece! Historic homes worth visiting

Farnsworth House Ludwig Mies van der Rohe built the Farnsworth House in 1951. At the time it was one of the most unique designs around. This house also contains continuous glass, which was a departure from the European architecture of the time. It’s located in Plano, Illinois. I’d love to visit for a weekend trip! Falling Water When planning my architecture vacation, I can’t forget about Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water , located in Western Pennsylvania. The house was built between 1936 and 1939 and amazingly, the style is still trending today. It caught the world’s eye because it doesn’t appear to be built on the ground. Instead it stretches over a 30′ waterfall. It’s definitely a must see! Historic homes worth visiting

Kykuit

Also near the NYC area is Kykuit , which was home to the Rockefeller family for years. The 6-story home is massive and contains a large collection of 20th century sculpture, as well as Rockefeller’s collection of Picasso tapestries. Not only is the home stunning, the artwork inside is stunning, as well! The best part is that it’s just a half hour from Manhattan!

Hearst Castle

I adore castles, and there aren’t many here in the United States. If you head west to California you can see the gorgeous Hearst Castle with your very own eyes! The castle, owned by the Hearst family, was named “La Custa Encanta”, which means The Enchanted Hill. I’d love to add this to my architecture tour list!
