A CEO of a major American telecom corporation and his wife came to me to transform their Upper East Side apartment—a vast, open space with little to no architectural detail. The home needed to feel grand enough to host business associates and celebs for high-stakes entertaining, while serving as a home away from home for the couple.
I first had to address the architectural challenges of the space—a vast, open, white box with lower post-war ceilings. To add interest, I incorporated antique columns, decorative plaster, archways, tray ceilings, high gloss paint, and dimensional tile. The ceilings instantly felt higher, the finishes richer, the home more architecturally interesting.
With the total trust of the client, I was able to turn a nondescript apartment into an elevated, luxe gathering place and a comfortable retreat for the CEO and his family—full of custom furnishings and fine details.
