Reno for the CEO
A CEO of a major American telecom corporation and his wife came to me to transform their Upper East Side apartment—a vast, open space with little to no architectural detail. The home needed to feel grand enough to host business associates and celebs for high-stakes entertaining, while serving as a home away from home for the couple.
I first had to address the architectural challenges of the space—a vast, open, white box with lower post-war ceilings. To add interest, I incorporated antique columns, decorative plaster, archways, tray ceilings, high gloss paint, and dimensional tile. The ceilings instantly felt higher, the finishes richer, the home more architecturally interesting.
With the total trust of the client, I was able to turn a nondescript apartment into an elevated, luxe gathering place and a comfortable retreat for the CEO and his family—full of custom furnishings and fine details.

To add architectural interest in the living room, Robin used a variety of materials like this 3-dimensional marble tile on the entire fireplace wall.

Robin added the fireplace in the living room to create a focal point. She punctuated the space above the fireplace with a bold, original piece of art.

To create a luxe look in this seating area in the living room, Robin mixed textures and patterns, one playing off of the other.

In another corner of the living room, the use of bold patterned fabric and oversized art makes a sophisticated statement.

The inviting entrance to this beautiful apartment has stone and glass tile inlaid into the floor to give the illusion of area rugs.

To maximize space in the entry, Robin used a curved demilune chest. Mixing modern, traditional, and primitive art and accessories adds interest.

Art comes in many forms. The space above the wet bar features a distinctive metal and crystal lighted wall sculpture.

It’s important to carry the design aesthetic through the transitional spaces of your home. Case in point: this stunning hallway.

This photo of the hallway built-in shows that storage pieces are yet another opportunity to make a statement. Important art and accessories make this an intriguing alcove.

A Moroccan-inspired theme in the client’s media room provides a warm, sophisticated retreat. It’s the perfect spot for them to unwind as they listen to music or watch television.

Great design is in the details. In the media room, a custom-designed, leather-wrapped built-in houses the television among well-chosen accessories.

An iron and glass door, large-scale art, and a custom light fixture provide interest in this hallway.

In the kitchen, Robin added a bronze painted ceiling tray that gives dimension to the space. The deep color highlights the stunning custom Murano glass pendants.

Robin made the most of the kitchen by building banquette seating for the eating area and added drama with large-scale artwork in the same color palette.

Corner cabinets were chosen for the dining room to maximize space and provide much needed storage for serving pieces, plates, and glasses.

Robin visually separated the master bedroom from the en-suite sitting room by incorporating antique columns.

The use of calming blues in the master sitting room creates a peaceful and serene haven.

This vignette from the master bedroom is a great example of how color can be placed in key locations to keep your eye moving throughout the space.

Robin chose to use the same patterned rug in coordinating colors for the master bedroom and sitting room to create a cohesive design in adjoining spaces.

The luxurious master bathroom has a long vanity, two sinks, and bold cabinet hardware. Robin always says hardware is like jewelry in a room!

The guest bedroom gives a nod to traditional design with its deep neutral palette. This warm and comfortable room welcomes those guests you hope will stay awhile.

Another view of the guest room showcases how to mix traditional and modern pieces in a harmonious way.

This guest bathroom was smaller in size, so Robin designed a custom mirrored vanity to help open up the space.

The second guest bedroom, where grandchildren come to stay, is a symphony of subtle and playful color. The trundle bed allows for flexibility in how the room is used.

This powder room makes a statement with its wood-patterned walls, the custom vanity’s mother-of-pearl door panels, a stunning over-scaled mirror, and original art. A powder room is a great opportunity to create a special place in your home.
