From Fire to Fabulous
This is one of the most heartwarming projects in my portfolio. My client came to me after experiencing a devastating loss: her home had suffered extensive damage from a fire. Her apartment needed a gut renovation, with extra steps to remediate smoke and fire damage. After everything my client had been through, I wanted to create a fabulous new start for her and her two boys.
I began with a total renovation—unfortunately, everything had been burnt. My job was to help turn the emotional situation into a fun, hopeful experience. In every meeting, my job was to take the focus off of the loss and make them excited about all the happiness ahead. I wanted this family to love living at home again.
I chose finishes and furnishings with resilience and comfort built in—details perfect for the young, busy family. Moving in bit by bit was not possible during the renovation, so I created one big reveal to wow them. What a wonderful feeling to see such happiness after a tragedy! The client and her boys saw their new home in one dramatic room-by-room reveal that left them awestruck. An unforgettable day for them, and for me. It’s why I do what I do!

The deep chocolate brown sofas and mix of patterns in the pillows and draperies give this living room an earthy, transitional vibe.

The living room coffee table has ottomans tucked underneath to provide extra seating or a comfortable place to kick up your feet. This gives the room the flexibility and lets the family make the most of the room.

This apple-green vase next to the living room sofa shows how pairing darker colors with a bright highlight color brings life to a space.

This view of the dining room shows how we mixed the clients’ favorite earthy colors of rusts and greens and added a splash of blue. This space, which opens up to the living room, lends itself to family living at its best.

The beautiful Macassar ebony coffee table in the living room is accessorized with a cool faux bois vase filled with tulips, creating the perfect balance of light and dark.

Combining painted and stained finishes on the kitchen cabinets sets this kitchen apart. Using darker stained wood for the lower cabinets adds dimension and helps the white kitchen flow with the rest of the home.

The light upper cabinets juxtaposed with the sophistication of the darker wood gives this kitchen the feeling of extending the open living space into the kitchen.

Robin loves to mix different styles to create interest. The Asian chest in the dining room works with transitional or modern designs.

Home offices are more important today than they ever have been. The deep taupe walls set off the artwork in this space. Brown is a grounding color, and helps keep the focus on the task at hand.

The reflective surface of the white built-in office cabinets accentuates the light coming in from the windows.

Have fun with your rugs! The simple design on this patterned rug makes the office space come alive.

This view from the living room gives us a peek into the den. Color and fun patterns bring this comfortable family room to life.

Great design is in the details! The playful trim on the living room window treatments punctuates the design of the room with a fun finishing touch.
