There’s no better holiday than Christmas to go over the top with your decorations…when it comes to the tree, it should be the star (I’m not just talking the topper!) of the show. Mixing up your decor every year keeps things fun and fabulous. As with all decorating projects, you have to start with a plan…so let me share the three decorating basics for a fab Christmas tree with you: The Color Do you want a real evergreen tree, or a faux tree in a color of your choice? If you pick a green tree, you have tons of options! Pantone’s color of 2013 is Emerald Green…so keep the theme and decorate with all Emerald Green ornaments – how fab is that?! Whether you choose to design you tree with one color or mix up your ornaments and lights, the main thing to keep in mind is to have fun with it and incorporate your holiday vision into the overall style of the room! I love white…it’s such a classic and chic design option. An all-white tree can look fab if done correctly. They key to a white tree is lighting. If a well-lit room feels happy, imagine how a well-lit tree will make you feel! White string lights give you a more formal look while colorful string lights will take you in a fun, funky direction. It’s your tree…so claim your style!Of course, there are other colorful trees out there. I’d love to see a purple tree. If you’re going to go for it, please let me know. I want to see your pictures! The Base The base of your tree is so important! Let’s call it the shoes of your tree’s ensemble. You can use anything you want here…a fabulous urn, an old wine box, or even a basket. You never know where you’re going to find inspiration for your Christmas tree base, so always have an open eye and an open mind! Wine box base

The Topper Like the base, the topper can be anything you want! Let’s call it the earrings of your tree. It’s the final thing you put on before you’re ready to go out, and it’s the last little sparkle you need to look your best. Same with your tree! You can be very chic and top your tree with an actual hat (very daring!), or add some bling with lights and sparkles. It’s your tree…let it represent your style! Tree topper
