I could easily show you some fabulous green colored items you could use in your home in honor of St. Patrick’s Day…but why be literal? Instead, I’m going to share some great “green” ways to spruce up your Spring! It’s almost here and the perfect time to freshen up your home! One of the easiest ways to give your home a quick makeover is a coat of paint. There is nothing better than a dose of color to breathe new life into your home…and life! When choosing paint for your decor update, take a cue from the Irish this St. Patty’s Day and go green! No, I don’t mean to paint the walls green! I’m talking about using eco-friendly paint which has no or low VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). VOC’s are harmful gasses that are omitted by many types of paint and finishes including glues and varnishes…not good for you or the environment. When it comes to paint, these two companies are as good as it gets!Sherwin-Williams’ Harmony line is water based and has zero VOC’s so your family can breathe easy…you’re doing something good for the environment as well as your health! And their new HGTV Home line has “on trend” color palettes that take the guess work out of coordinating your paint colors. Can being green get any easier…or more fashionable?

Benjamin Moore is also a long standing favorite of mine. This paint powerhouse has a wide range of zero and low VOC paint collections. My picks? Aura and Ben . These lines have great colors and paint professionals love them because they go on so beautifully. I also like their new Color Stories line. It offers colors inspired by nature, architecture, food, and so much more. Recently we asked Simplifying Fabulous! readers to share their own color story to win a gallon of any of Benjamin Moore’s great paints. Color Stories is a fun line that allows you to make it your own by expressing your personal style all while being eco-conscious!

While you think about your painting project, a little food for thought…you don’t have to paint the entire room to create a big impact. Painting one wall can make a dramatic difference and it may be all you need to give you that new FAB look you’ve been looking for. And don’t forget the ceiling! I feel that the ceiling is often a missed opportunity to pull a room together. Step out of your comfort zone and paint it a deep color, a lighter tone of your walls, or use a metallic paint for a little extra glam!
