Faux Sure: Cozy Up Your Home with Faux Fur

With blistery weather causing the thermometer to dip to frosty temperatures, the winter season beckons for fabulous, cozy décor options.

With its luxe style and oh-so-soft splendor, faux fur instantly adds a dose of Old Hollywood glamour to the room, along with textural interest, as seen in Jennifer Brouwer Design’s Frybrook project. A plush faux fur throw on the bed exudes elegance when paired with rich aubergine pillows and damask nailhead trim upholstered headboard, and the faux animal pelt brings warmth to the living room infused with color. “Animal pelts are fun and whimsical,” says Brouwer. “Both elements are hot in 2012.”

Hollywood glamour not your forte? As seen in this guestroom design by Tilton Fenwick, the cottage-like decor features their signature peacock logo on the walls, a four-post spindle bed, and a faux sheepskin pellet layered over an abaca rug. “We love sheepskin at the side of a bed in winter for extra-cozy warmth underfoot,” says one of the firm’s founders Suysel dePedro Cunningham. “The abaca is great year round, but when it gets colder, this extra layer adds texture and a whole new level of depth to the room.”
