I hope you’re loving my new Fab Friday Icons posts! Thinking about crusaders of forward-thinking fashion always brings to mind one of my absolute favorites … Coco Chanel! The French fashion designer was constantly striving to rise above her meager beginnings … establishing one of the most popular and iconic brands in the world!The new Chanel No. 5 commercial starring Brad Pitt has lots of people talking, however talk about the fashion house is nothing new. Coco gave us more than the intoxicating, timeless fragrance. Today’s style evolution is all due to her unceasing taste making.
For one thing, Coco made going without a corset fashionable! And there were many women to thank her, I’m sure. Her looser, sport-inspired clothing was seen as a feminist move in a post-WWI era. Talk about trendsetting!If you can’t already tell, I’m a huge fan of statement and costume jewelry. Coco adored piling on pearls and other attention-getting baubles. I love doing the same…although I always keep her famous accessories mantra in mind, “Before you head out the door, take one thing off.” That great advice will never grow old.
We’ve all been saved once or twice by a “little black dress” to wear to something special. Chanel’s credited for that invention, as well. It’s hard to think back to a time back when the LBD wasn’t in every woman’s closet!
