Untitled 7-14-19, Geometric Abstract Oil on Paper

This painting embodies the personal icons Webb has assumed over his many years: the triangle form which could be a Navy semaphore or a sail or an ancient hieroglyph. These objects/characters are organized in a collage-like manner - the gyrating rhythm the artist establishes charges the composition.

ROBIN SAYS: Art gives us the ability to explore and express our inner self while inspiring others. Listen to the feelings and emotions a piece evokes within you and use what speaks to you to bring out your style.

Born in Kansas, Webb moved to New York in the 1960s, finding himself squarely in the midst of the exhilarating, hugely experimental zeitgeist as Color Field, Minimalism, and Pop were emerging. During this time, Webb explored these various idioms, finally returning to the visual language he felt most suited him: broadly gestural paintings containing cryptic nods to an iconography distinctly his own. His work is rich in materiality (he makes his own oil paints) and often heroic in scale. Click here to see more from Larry Webb.
