New York Fashion Week Trends Come Inside

The first sign of fall in New York City isn’t the changing of the leaves or the smell of cider wafting from the local markets...it’s the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! Starting this Thursday, a sea of stilettos will take over Lincoln Center to get a first glimpse at the upcoming fashion trends for next spring. I’ll let you in on a little secret: The trends we see rocking the runways are oftentimes introduced into our homes the next season or so later. So, by keeping an eye on couture, you can be a trendsetter when it comes to your home! Here are five of our favorite fashion-turned-interior trends that you can look forward to this fall:

Demand for Denim

This fall, designers are dabbling in denim! As jean jackets make their way back into your closet, introduce durable denim into your interiors for a classic Americana look.

Bring Casual Friday home in a number of ways: Pairing denim pillows with contrasting colors for a pop; Add warmth to a room with a rug, or give a formal dining room a dose of casual with denim chair slipcovers. Keep in mind, denim doesn’t necessarily mean blue – this sofa from Crate & Barrel comes in a multitude of denim-friendly colors, from charcoal to classic to coffee.

Lace Embrace

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – lace is everywhere! It’s appearing on runways and in rooms alike and not just in fabric form.

Home products are tapping into this trend with lace-inspired designs that are a far cry from your grandmother’s doilies, such as this pendant lamp from Room & Board in a yummy citron color that’s perfect for fall.

Marbleized Mod

A trend that is swirling through the design world is the marbleized look. Resurrected from the 70s, it’s been given an updated makeover using modern colors.

What’s great about this trend is that it can be created on any color or surface. Best used in moderation, try it out on smaller accessories such as pillows, chandelier shades, or vases.

Spot On

We are certainly seeing spots this fall! Design houses such as Marc Jacobs, Jill Stuart, and Gucci have all included this fun and flirty pattern in their shows.

This fab trend easily transitions into home design. Go big and bold (such as this polka dot flooring post from Apartment Therapy) or small and subtle with kitchen accents from Anthropologie.

Blocked Off

Fashion and interior designers keep coming back to the color blocking trend – and it’s no surprise why.

The bold colors bring a sense of energy to a room, and the trend can be created in small or large doses. For a fresh fall take on this vibrant design, opt for autumn-inspired colors, such as harvesting oranges, yellows, greens, and browns.
