A New Legion of Daydream Fashion!

Hi Fabulistas!

Fashion has always been the perfect rhetoric of the world’s mood - and today's world is fast and dynamic, as well as inspiring and fueling. This year's New York Fashion Week is as exciting and as loud as ever!

Set against a soundtrack of cell phones flashing and the murmur of celebrity-infused front rows, designers send their latest fabulousness down the runway. A flock of newcomers, along with relatively new brands, keep the focus on the clothes. And, one particular runway veteran consistently shows them a refined way to do so.

The Spring 2017 shows are marked with more designers dabbling in the See-Now-Buy-Now theme, a more immediate way of connecting with the customer. Also more than ever, it's clear what the trends are.

Stripes are dominating New York shows, closely followed by what I call White-on-White Texture. This season, I'm also gravitating towards such trends as Clean Lines, Black-and-White and Tangerine+Black color combo. And definitely worth mentioning is a sub-trend of Knits in Bold colors which will find itself landing beautifully in Interior Design pieces such as pillows, throws and fabrics.

The new legion of designers on my radar have all listened carefully to what’s happening in the world. And the world wants clothes with a calming effect: soft, touchable textures, silhouettes that gently envelop the body and a relaxed fit with simpler lines. Dare I say, Daydream-Makers!

Among the newcomers are Haus Alkire and PH5 with their notable debut collections. Both lines introduced clean stripes and chunky knits as staples. Relatively new brands, such as Colovos, Novis and Gabriela Hearst, all have put on powerful shows with clear identities. All three revealed their version of Black-and-White.

Jonathan Simkhai, Dion Lee and Brandon Maxwell are the labels that have been building a steady following. Simkhai’s collection was heavy on White-on-White texture, while Dion Lee and Maxwell polish their Clean Lines.

Narciso Rodriguez, a veteran of the group, has always stayed true to his sensibility since his famous wedding dress for Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. He constantly refreshes the classic and the iconic as he listens to his customers and makes them daydream at the same time. His was a vision of grand simplicity, but this time with bold punches of tangerine and orange grounded with black.

The clothes I see and love this season are sleek and geometric with a relaxed, unfussy fit. They are at the same time romantic and sexy. This is the golden medium in the hands of the designers. The lines are clean and refined and contribute to great-looking and effortless dressing. Architectural lines are fluid and connect intellect with wearable.

Now, these are the clothes for a thinking woman who values the sense of movement and finds the time to daydream!

Great design is in the details!

Big decisions are important but the details are what make a house a home.
