Vignettes to Inspire Your Thanksgiving Decor

Hello Fabulistas!

Creating decorative fall vignettes is a sure way to make your home feel more inviting and warm this holiday season. They're especially great for you fall lovers who like to savor the last bits of the season before we give way to all that December has in store! When you think of creating these fabulous vignettes, it’s not necessarily so much about grouping items together and layering to achieve that lush and luxurious look, it's more about your instinct and what creates a sense of calm and coziness for you. With that in mind, I've collected a few inspirations for you to use as a guide for your own creations!

There are a few basic steps and guidelines to creating a luxurious fall groupings, and I'm happily sharing them with you, my Fabulistas!

I usually start with a base for my story... I prefer an engraved tray or an embellished ceramic dish. Try stacking dishes for height and added layering. If you prefer linens, use embroidered napkins and even beautiful placemats will serve well as a gorgeous foundation for your lovely vignette.

Next step, add an item with height such as a pitcher or a few candles, artificial or real pumpkins, candle holders or a vase with a branch to bring natural elements inside. Side note: gold is a wonderful color to create a holiday feeling, so spray-paint the branch or the pumpkin for added sheen!

Remember to use highs and lows, and add taller items to build the size of the overall fixture, and the smaller ones for balance and grounding. Here is where I like to add softness, usually with fresh flowers and vegetables... they're always a delightful way to add visual interest. Incorporating fresh herbs, as well, will evoke the sense of harvest, the quintessential fall sentiment. Pine cones, persimmons, corn cobs, artichokes and smaller gourds all are wonderfully fitting this season, and more importantly, add a variety of color and textures.

Now comes the layering, Fabulistas! I like to complement fall designs like these with feathers, ribbons, leaves and tall decorative champagne glasses. Mixing different materials into a multitude of layers will make your vignette feel lush and warm. Another trick is to use an odd number of objects... perhaps one of the best-hidden secrets in design!

There are no absolute rules on where to place your creations. Entryways and front doors are more on the traditional side, and they greet your guests with a holiday spirit. Situating your vignette on a sofa table, the mantel, or as a tablescape brings the festive feeling inside where you and your guests will revel in joy and celebration with a gorgeous visual feast to rest your eyes on!

Do it right the first time. It will save you time, energy, and money!

Spend the money to do something right and buy what you love. It may seem like it’s costing more than you’d like, but it always costs more to re-do it later!
