MBFW New York Fall 2013: First Impressions

Hello lovelies! Right now Lincoln Center and other parts of the city are overrun with fashionistas braving all this frigid and slushy weather we've been having for New York Fashion Week! It's all worth it in the name of fashion, though. (Or at least that's what we all keep telling ourselves.) Like I've said before, interior design and fashion are closely related. Lots of fashion designers get into home collection design, too. So it only makes sense that as an interior designer I keep a close watch on all the current and upcoming fashion trends. They have such an influence on spaces I design for my clients. We're still in the midst of all the FABULOUS fashion festivities, but here are a few runway looks that I'm really excited about! Kelly Wearstler I love Kelly's interior designs. She has a taste for the bold and glam, like me! Did you know that she designs fashion collections too? Her jewelry is simply AMAZING! So I was excited to see her collection this season and it sure didn't disappoint. It's a small collection (with only seven looks), but it really packs a major punch! The layers of textures, patterns and colors here is simply splendid! The shoes and skirt match, but have so much personality that it comes across as chic, not cheesy. I'm a sucker for graphics and those pants are really bringing it when it comes to shapes! The sparkly detailing on the sweater's shoulders is a nice little reveal when you pull off the jacket. You can rarely go wrong with black and this coat definitely isn't basic! The striped lining gives it a real sense of depth and personality. I'm always on the hunt for a FAB black coat to stand out in the New York crowds! Red Valentino I can't help but look at this collection and think, Someone was channeling Dakota and Elle Fanning for this. But you know what? I love it! There are so many interesting designs, patterns and proportions at play here! What a GLAM moment for plaid! The bold colors, fur collar and lace hem peeking out underneath the coat make this look fit for a doll, or street style icon. I love the play on texture with those wildly patterned shoes and knee highs! At first glance, this outfit just seems like a basic black ensemble. Take a second look and you'll see that it has a great amount of detail there! I love the trench coat-type top and rigid pleats on the skirt. Plus, who doesn't LOVE a fab pair of black leather boots?! This shade is a tough neutral to pull off in an interesting way. It seems the key here is to go for embroidery and patterns! The more you look at this outfit, the more interesting it gets! Lauren Moffatt This designer always comes up with cute outfits. Although, who knew cabinwear could be SO chic?! OK, maybe I did. Still, I love how being cozy and cute inspired this collection. Now that's something we can all appreciate while the weather is still so frigid! You know I love a glam, sparkly look! This one does a FAB job of balancing out the sequin skirt with casual shoes and a neutral shirt. It's a true balancing act! P.S. How cute is that appropriate cabin background? We've all heard so much about color blocking, but are you ready for pattern blocking? I am! This look is all about balance too. If you're mixing contrasting patterns, choosing ones on different scales makes things interesting AND cohesive. I have a passion for Victorian-era antiques. Just look at Shop Robin and you'll see! So I naturally couldn't help but FALL for this prim blouse that has lots of little details. It definitely has a Victorian vibe, don't you think? Did you love these early NYFW collection standouts like I did? What are some other collections you drew interior design inspiration from? Let me know in the comments and we'll start the conversation! all images: WWD
