House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Year

Look out! House Beautiful is stopping pedestrians in their tracks with their annual Kitchen of the Year event! That means that if you happen to be strolling down Rockefeller Plaza in the next few days, you’ll find yourself face-to-face with a fully functioning, super chic kitchen installation, courtesy of designer Mick de Giulio and a devoted team that spent two weeks bringing the vision to life. Most events are open to the public, so head on over and cozy up on the back patio! Watch on as an all-star chef (tonight, it’s the esteemed Todd English) wows the crowd with a culinary demonstration. Yesterday, I caught Luke and Ben from Luke’s Lobster. What a show!

I stopped by for a private breakfast this morning with the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Newell Turner, and some fabulous people from Kravet, who chatted about their favorite elements of the space.

Personally, I can’t get enough of this dining table, which is part of Kravet’s new modern dining collection. And oh…that light fixture. How ME is that?

The great thing about this shelving is that it looks fabulous, and yet it’s also super functional. It gets pots, pans, and dishes off of the countertop…which does wonders for anyone who (like me) needs lots of space to cook and entertain! See how spacious the countertop looks?

The hammered metal look is a great way to add texture to metal. I know that seems like a strange concept – “textured metal” – but just look at how great it looks in the kitchen’s pantry. I think my favorite part, though, was the way this stone wall turned out over the mantlepiece. Don’t you just love it? I love celebrating modern design trends! Especially when it means being able to chat with fellow innovators and super cool designers. I’m already excited for next year’s kitchen!
