Chevron Chic

Just as the pattern suggests, chevron has risen and fallen in popularity, and currently, it appears to be at its peak. Similar to its flame stitch counterpart, we likely have fashion designer Missoni’s surge in the mainstream market to thank for its spike. The dynamic zigzag is being seen in rugs, window treatments, wall décor and decorative accents, and is virtually gender- and age- neutral, giving it prominent placement in a variety of styles and surfaces. Used with monochromatic color combos and small scaling, chevron is an elegant accent that creates the illusion of texture, or you can go big and bold with high-contrast colors, turning even the simplest accessory into a focal point. The chevron rug in this room designed by Armonia Decors gives off a vastly different vibe than the more serene nursery version from Dwell Studio yet both bring another level of interest to the foundation of the room. Same pattern, two completely different effects.

The classic black-and-white stripes are seen most often, but designers are starting to use chevron patterns as a jumping off point for other trends, as seen here in the design by Stencil Library. Using an ombre saturation, it keeps the colors from being too jarring while evoking two trends in one.

A beautiful and neutral way to bring chevron into your décor is through your wood and tile flooring. It works with any design and adds just enough visual interest to up the design ante, as seen here in this rich ebony-stained white oak wood floor hallway designed by D Space Studio.

For style without commitment, add pops of chevron through accessories such as lamps, pillows and throws.
