Are you ready for a double dose of fabulous? Because I’ve got both Zandra Pappas and Tatyana Miron Ahlers of Pappas Miron Design here with me today, and we’re chatting all about inspiration, design projects, and why being an interior designer is the greatest job ever! (Okay, so maybe we’re a little biased.) Pappas Miron Design is all about creating relaxed, modern environments, which I love, and like me, Zandra and Tatyana are antique-lovers! I got all the deets from these fab females. Read below! Robin Baron: Tell us about what you do. Zandra Pappas: I am co-founder of Pappas Miron Design , an interior design firm that I started with my dear friend from childhood, Tatyana Miron Ahlers. We have completed projects in Manhattan, CT, Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket & Cape Cod, Miami and Palm Beach. Tatyana Miron Ahlers : Together with my partner in crime Alexandra Pappas, I am fortunate to call creating beautiful homes for our clients my “job”! RB: What have been some of your favorite projects so far? ZP: Projects outside of Manhattan are always intriguing and challenging. They are usually second or vacation homes so the clients are much more willing to push the envelope and go out of their comfort zone. But, there is nothing more satisfying than a soup-to-nuts job where we are in control of the renovation and the decoration. The transformation is so complete and it never ceases to excite me. RB: What do you love most about what you do? TMA: I love bringing my passion for furniture, textiles, and color to our clients. My mother is an antique textile dealer, and I was brought up wandering through antique markets, so it is in my blood. It is great to introduce people to the endless wonders of the decorative arts. There were and are so many talented craftsmen in the world! RB: How would you describe your own home décor? ZP: My home is quirky and never quite “done.” It is filled with my collections and pieces that I have fallen in love with and couldn’t ever sell. Additionally, it is the last place that I consider to be decorated and is always changing, depending on the next treasure that I come across…in other words it’s a bit of a mess. TMA: My home is very much a reflection of my personality – eccentric and a bit random! We have everything from a 70’s modern leather and chrome sofa, to a silk embroidered mirror, to an oversized Italian 4 poster bed. I love what I love, and I am never too concerned with how it all fits together. I think a good floor plan is the key to any room, and as long as the pieces are the right scale, it can all be put together! RB: What is the one thing in your home that everyone comments on? ZP: My vintage movie posters and my collection of turquoise venetian glass. RB: What does fabulous mean to you? ZP: Fabulous to me, I think, means exciting, unexpected and something (or someone) that makes you happy, brings a smile and holds your attention. TMA: I am trying to think of all the fabulous things and spaces that I have encountered, and what they have in common…… craftsmanship, creativity, and spirit – I think those are most important in making something fabulous. RB: Anything else really that you’d want to include about the company would be wonderful! ZP: We are working on some great projects in Manhattan along with a loft in Boston. In addition to our website, we are adding a blog this fall, so stay tuned and keep checking back. Also, visit our Facebook page (facebook.com/pappasmiron) for fun tips and before & after photos!
