Ski Lodge-Inspired Decor

Brrr! The winter season has finally arrived and has us craving some coziness this holiday season! One of the comfiest places I can think of is a ski lodge...a crackling fire burns while I'm curled up in a plush leather chair, a big mug of hot cocoa in hand, reading my favorite novel as the snow falls outside the window. Sigh... But in order to get to a ski lodge, it requires one to trek out into that blistery weather – no, thank you! So instead of going to the mountain, bring the mountain to you. With just a few key pieces you can add some alpine glam to your home, sans the slopes.

Antlers

I know...they're EVERYWHERE right now, but a set of antlers on a wall is the perfect way to get the lodge look in an instant. Whether you stumbled across a cool set at a flea market or you go mass-market and pick them up at your nearest West Elm, they lend a back country feel that's hard to create otherwise!

Plaid

What’s a ski lodge without some plaid? It's busy design can be a bit overwhelming so use it in small doses. A simple buffalo check throw, such as this woolen one from Faribault Mill, is all the plaid you need to transport you to that special cozy place. When you’re not curled up with it, keep it on display on your couch or rolled up in a wicker basket.

Wall Art

Lodges bring a sense of adventure with them, and even if you’re more of a homebody than a snow bunny, you can still incorporate some ski lodge elements into your décor as wall art! Pottery Barn has some fabulous vintage snowshoes and skis to add an outdoor ambiance to your interiors.

Firewood

Even if you don’t have a fireplace, a stack of firewood or a basket filled with a few pieces can give a cozy rustic appearance. The aroma alone can transport you to higher elevations.

Furniture

Every good lodge has a "perfect chair." You know what kind I'm talking about...a worn, leather piece that you can plop down on and sink right into. This club chair from Anthropologie is made of distressed leather, so you have the cozy worn look without the wear. All you need is a cup of cocoa!

Mix in reclaimed or distressed wood pieces with the thought that you may not necessarily want the wintery look year-round. Invest in furniture that is versatile, such as this console, also from Anthropologie. The wood is rustic, but the design isn’t heavy, allowing you to go from lodge to French country to shabby chic easily.
