Orange You Glad it's a Trend?

Citrus hues are popping up everywhere in the fashion world right now, from the collections of Burberry to Dior. If you’ve developed an orange crush, why not take the trend into your home? The color palette of lemony yellows, lime greens and bold oranges is just like a fruit cocktail—fresh, fun with a splash of tartness. If you’re not ready for a total citrus makeover, accessorize to incorporate a splash of sass. Lacquered trays, bowls and vases are functional objects that you can switch out seasonally. Group them with white accessories on a mantel or console to create an ultra-mod look; blended with woods and they’ll shout country cool! Consider placement as well—grouping multiple similarly-colored pieces together will create a monochromatic focal point of the room; scatter the color throughout the room if you’d rather have it blend with the rest of the space.

Put a twist on your citrus fix with edgy applications…literally! Head to your local fabric store and pick up some trim or tassels to incorporate along the edges of pillows, sofa or window treatments. Roger Thomas’ new line for Samuel & Sons includes these fringe and tassels in a great mango color. If you happen to already have deep blues and navys in your home, a complementary citrus trim would really take the room to new heights! Pair with taupes and you’ll have traditional chic. If you’re ready shout your love of citrus from the rooftops, bold paint or wallpaper would certainly get the point across! Depending on your level of comfort, try an accent wall versus an an entire room, on an unexpected locale like the front door! And when matted and framed, left-over pieces of the wallpaper would bring to life an otherwise quiet white wall in another room of the house.

Take a tip from magazine and catalog stylists who incorporate fresh fruit into their photo shoots and get quite literal with the trend. Fill a glass bowl or hurricane with one type of fruit for a beautiful, simple alternative to a flower arrangement. Any way you end up incorporating citrus hues you’re sure to infuse some freshness and fun to your home this spring!

Great design is in the details!

Big decisions are important but the details are what make a house a home.
