Going Green with Etsy

Love Etsy? Me too. I love browsing the site for all kinds of things from stationary to gifts, but it's an especially great resource for finding great home decor that is also eco friendly. Here are a few of my favorite green storefronts: Colorful cloth napkins turn temporary into extraordinary! Check out Idaho-based CharlotteHandmade for her selection of graphic organic cotton tabletoppers. Use these instead of their paper counterparts, and you’ll reduce landfills save trees and save some cash! And for every order, a tree is planted, too.

Metamorphosi is a shop which offers light fixtures and jewelry, among other things, made using recycled material. For something really striking in the foyer, try this chandelier, made from Italian glass mineral water bottles found at a slow food restaurant. So chic!

I'm all about personal mantras! FreshWordsMarket has some very cool, graphic posters with inspirational messages. The posters are printed with soy ink on New Leaf 100 percent recycled paper, and for every product sold, the shop donates 5 dollars to PEACE, a not-for-profit that works to improve the quality of life of underserved Mexican populations.

Blake Avenue's gorgeous wooden furniture is crafted from reclaimed and recycled materials. The creators feel that wood has a history that should be preserved, and some of their material dates back 150 years or more. LOVE this industrial glam shelving unit, which, like all Blake Aveune pieces, is hand made to order. If you’ve got young children—or are simply a fan of adorable décor—you must visit Maple Shade Kids. This handcrafted Fawn and Deer Rack is made with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified poplar wood, recycled and FSC certified paper, and non-toxic paint and sealer—and is totally cute too!

Croft House is another great source for stunning reclaimed furniture like this media cabinet. It’s made from recycled steel and wood reclaimed from a 120-year-old whiskey distillery barn. This Mini Turtle puzzle from Timber Green Woods looks more like a piece of art than a game. I can see this in the kids’ playroom, or even displayed as a decorative object on a coffee table or shelf. All of Timber Green Woods’ puzzles, as well as the shop’s cutting boards, chopping blocks and ornaments, are made from sustainable, locally-grown woods and finished with non-toxic oil.

Add some serious sass to your sofa with a recycled burlap pillow slips with a cheeky sayings. Each pillow in Ireckon's collection is made from leftovers from the New Orleans Convention Center that were saved from being thrown out.

Shampoo bars from Ethically Engineered will add a pop of color to your bath—and not just the color green! Creator Jack Nugent made the bars when he saw the plastic packaging and inorganic ingredients in most shampoos available today, and thought, “There must be a better way.” Looks good to me!

Great design is in the details!

Big decisions are important but the details are what make a house a home.
