Fab Fridays: Designer Stacy Garcia

ABOUT Stacy Garcia is a product designer whose inventive use of color and texture shines through in everything she does, from wallcoverings to stain-resistant upholstery! Her signature designs and in-depth knowledge of color and trends are informed by a long and rich history of working with hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, Doubletree and Holiday Inn. Where does all of the creativity come from? Stacy says she draws colors, patterns, and product inspiration from travel! For today's Fab Friday we find out how Stacy simplifies fabulous in her work and life! (If you're in NYC Sun -Mon, Nov. 13th-14th, find Stacy at the Boutique Design New York Trend Walk at the Javits Center!) Robin Baron: Tell us a bit about what you do? Stacy Garcia: I am creative director of my namesake lifestyle brand that focuses on designing interior products for hospitality and home. I create the patterns, textures and styles that inspire today’s leading hospitality designers and lets individuals bring the luxury of resort living home. RB: What are you working on right now? SG: At the Stacy Garcia design studio we always have lots brewing... I am proud to announce the launch of LebaTex’s (my other company and certified women owned business) first-ever designer upholstery book. This product uses nanotechnology to repel permanent stains and spills. I have four children, so I tested it out myself! RB: What project in your portfolio are you most proud of? SG: I am the curator of the Boutique Design New York Trend Walk that will take place this Sun.-Mon., Nov. 13th -14th, at the Javits Center in NYC. This has been a totally new experience for me and a chance to showcase trend forecasting to the hospitality industry. It has been fun to collaborate with the three design firms chosen to interpret our forecasted trends. I can’t wait to see everyone experience the Trend Walk and really explore each trend. RB: What do you love most about your work? SG: I love that my work designing interior product and spaces, serves as the backdrop to all the moments in our lives. I have the ability to make your home feel comfortable, enliven your senses, change your mood, or as you say Robin, make you feel fabulous. RB: What impact has working in the design industry made on you? SG: At Stacy Garcia, we consider ourselves lucky to be part of an exciting design community — not to mention the communities in which we live and work. Our best work and greatest joys come through collaboration, whether we’re exploring our favorite sources of inspiration, working with professional groups to forecast colors and create designs, or reaching out to nonprofit organizations to create a better world. It’s really all about the amazing people I’ve had the luxury of working with. Also, spending time learning the art of forecasting trends has allowed me to become much more sensitive to the psychology behind the way we live and interact and the decisions we are making. RB: How would you describe your own home décor? SG: Because I have spent so many years designing for some of the best hotels, I like to bring that feeling of a relaxing and luxurious hotel stay into my home. The best way to do that is focusing on the little things. For example in the bathroom, treat yourself to plush towels and bath mats, use aromatherapy candles to help relax and give yourself little amenities like nice shampoos and soaps. RB: What’s inspiring you now? SG: After 11 years of being a mother of three boys, I finally have a daughter! I’ve been having so much fun designing a nursery for a little girl. It doesn’t get much more inspiring than that! RB: What do you love most about your home and why? SG: Family. Nothing makes me smile more than the sound of my children’s laughter filling our home. RB: What is the one thing in your home that everyone always comments on? SG: The wallcoverings! The Stacy Garcia wallcoverings aren’t your grandmother’s wallcoverings and that always surprises my guests. They have texture and help make a space feel well designed. Some of my residential wallcoverings even have Swarovski crystal!
