Pied-à-terre Off Central Park
When an out-of-town couple set out to look for an NYC home base, they found 15 Central Park West—now a famous NYC landmark.The apartment started out as a total blank slate. A huge white box. My challenge was to honor the gravitas of the apartment’s building—in one of the most prestigious locations in New York City—while transforming the space into a warm, yet impressive home away from home.
I initiated a complete gut job and oversaw every detail—with the couple’s total trust and faith!—to reinvent the space for their modern luxury living and entertaining.
The clients loved how the sophisticated pied-à-terre turned out. I filled it with custom details throughout—high-end finishes, custom upholstery, wool and silk carpets, onyx countertops, handcrafted bronze tile—fab details everywhere! I even designed a one-of-a-kind cocktail table to suit the space. The home now rises to the level of its remarkable building—and is a refuge of relaxation for the couple and their guests.

The living room features a monochromatic color palette and has generous seating for guests. As in many urban apartments, the living room doubles as a family room to watch TV. A beautiful, modern built-in showcases that even if you have a television in your room, you can still maintain a high level of design.

Robin designed the coffee table in the living room to have removable pearlized leather cushions so that it can be used to prop up your feet, as extra seating, or as a proper table for serving food when entertaining.

A calm, neutral color palette, expressed with a mix of materials, creates flow in the open living area. Two different, coordinating fabrics were used on both the living room sofa and the dining chairs for textural interest.

The glass wall sculpture adds an unexpected element as a backdrop for the dining area. The hand-blown glass of the sculpture brings out the beauty of the Murano glass chandelier over the dining table.

A great, modern look for a kitchen: two-toned cabinetry. To create the look in this kitchen, Robin made the bottom cabinets a rich, matte stained wood and the upper cabinets a high-gloss white lacquer. This gives the feeling of a white kitchen,while adding extra visual interest.

In the guest bath, the custom vanity sets this space apart. The 4-inch-thick stone counter has an integrated angled sink with linear carving. The glass tiles in the shower are organic yet modern.
